This World is not for Workaholics

The World has been facing a troubling paradox: on one hand there are more and more tools to save time, on the other, there is less time and the time that remains is increasingly the luxury of this century.

Having wealth may no longer mean having money but, above all, having the time to enjoy the benefits of the money one makes. According to José Mujica, former President of Uruguay, when we buy the latest model of a smartphone, we do not buy it with money, but with the life we spend working to earn money to purchase it.

Finally, the world begins to realize that the cost of time in life is the one that matters the most. What was fashionable in the 80s and 90s, and that has started the Yuppie movement or Workaholics, has proved to be empty or even ridiculous. The consequences are out there. The prevalence of diseases such as depression and anxiety has soared: to own an empire but not having your own time is now changing to a much more intelligent lifestyle and socially logic.

What really matters is the intellectual capital, the exchange of ideas and shared construction, and above all having the time for what is really important and enjoying it with quality, whether playing sports, spending time with our children at the end of the day or just to meditate in silence.

That is why today, in most developed countries, we see CEOs of large multinational discuss the capabilities of their new bikes instead of the performance of their cars which they have stopped using.

We also see Start-ups, now worth millions of dollars on NASDAQ, born a few months before within alternative workspaces as Coworking, often enjoying the benefits of teleworking through the Virtual Office.

This world is not for those who keep the power for themselves, but for those who realized that the power in you when you work as a team and for those who allow everyone to have time for other things besides work. The new working models also came to contribute to this new paradigm that increasingly rejects Workaholics and welcomes those who value time.
