Carlos Gonçalves founded Avila Spaces in 2004, following a professional career in project management, consultancy, and hospital administration.
In 2007, he became an ambassador for eOffice, the UK’s first coworking space network, and piloted a pioneering coworking concept in Lisbon. Although the market was not ready at the time, this initiative laid the groundwork for Avila Spaces’ future success, along with the launch, in 2010, of the world’s first virtual office mobile application: the myOffice app.
In 2013, Carlos was appointed International Director of the Global Workspace Association and published the book “Out of the Office”, in which he shares his vision for the future of workspaces. Under his leadership, Avila Spaces has received multiple international awards, including the title of “World’s Best Coworking Space” at the 2023 Global Startup Awards and the “Next Work Environment 2024” award from Work Design Magazine, which recognized the innovative design of the Avila Cowork Café in Parque das Nações.
In addition to leading Avila Spaces, Carlos is a member of the advisory board of eOffice and an ambassador for the South Europe Startup Awards. He also regularly participates in international conferences on business organization models, coworking, and remote work.
With more than two decades of experience, Carlos Gonçalves continues to drive innovation and excellence in the sector, positioning Avila Spaces as a global benchmark in coworking and flexible workspace solutions.
